UAE Visa Without Job : About 85 percent of the UAE’s population consists of expatriates who come to work as an employee and live in the country on a work visa. However, the UAE continuing its stride to become the ideal destination for work, investment, entrepreneurship, education, and life, has made a noteworthy expansion of the visa scheme that allows expats to live and enjoy the high standard of living in the UAE without a work visa.

Although a majority of the expats, which accounts for about 85 percent of the UAE’s population, work as an employee in the country and require a work visa to live here, there has, however, been a noteworthy expansion of the visa scheme as announced by the UAE government.

With the travel and tourism industries returning to normalcy, and under the UAE’s new visa rules, expats can now choose to live and enjoy the high standard of living that the country offers to its residents without a work visa.

The following are some UAE’s new residence schemes which allow expatriates to enter and reside in the country without a visa:

In addition to facilitating and simplifying the requirements of all residence types, more benefits are being offered including, longer flexible grace periods that reach up to 6 months to stay in the country after the residence permit is cancelled or expired to facilitate family members’ residence.

How life has changed for these residents

Rosine Saad, a Lebanese expat, applied for the Golden Visa for practical reasons. “My visa was expiring at the time, and I didn’t have a permanent visa. I am active in the arts scene, so I was eligible,” she said.

However, it wasn’t only the case of seeking legal stability. “I also wanted personal stability. Being from a nationality that can’t do ‘visa runs’, I wanted something that connects me here. I feel that the UAE is my second home, and I grew here as a person in the last 10 years.”

UAE Golden Visa Change in Minimum Salary Requirement When she received it, Rosine said she was overwhelmed with gratitude. “I felt humbled and grateful. They saw something in me,” she said. “Now, I can focus on what I want to do without being stressed about my legal status. I feel like I can take my time to explore creatively.”

In the past, she added, she would sometimes take odd jobs just to be in the country legally.

“I hope it gets renewed again in 10 years. I would also really hope to see medical benefits for Golden Visa recipients, this would make a huge difference for those who have no medical insurance,” she said.

UAE Golden Visa Change in Minimum Salary Requirement. When Mir Imran Hussein came to Dubai from India, he only intended to stay for two or three years. “Many expats are the same, but then the city is so welcoming so when the option for a 10-year visa came up, I went for it,” he said.

Mir said that it gave him the chance to plan his life and to think about things like buying his own house and starting a production company.

“Stability is key especially when you have a family. When your visa is renewed every two or three years, you can’t really make plans,” he said.

Mir said that the process itself from applying to receiving took from seven to 10 working days. “Everything was so smooth.”

After receiving it he said that he felt a sense of responsibility. “This country rewards you for your efforts and so I plan my every step carefully and hope to inspire others.”

As a Golden Visa holder, Mir said he hopes to get visa-free travel across the GCC and to receive information from the authorities concerned regarding investment opportunities in the country.

Golden Visa holders in the UAE can now sponsor their parents

Golden Visa holders in the UAE can now sponsor their parents for a 10-year residency. This is part of a significantly expanded Golden Visa scheme that went into effect on October 3.

Golden Visa holders in the UAE can now sponsor their parents

Firosekhan, operation manager at Arabian Business Centre (Amer Centre – Sheikh Zayed Road), told : “We issued a 10-year Golden Visa for the parents of a 10-year visa holder. Previously, these used to be issued for a year like it is done for normal residency holders.”

A customer care agent from the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) confirmed the development.

According to the official UAE Government website, an expatriate employee can sponsor parents for a year's stay by “paying a deposit as a guarantee for each parent as stipulated by the respective immigration department”.

“The deposit that needs to be made to sponsor parents does not apply to Golden Visa holders. They need to submit a document issued by their respective consulates stating that they are the sole caretakers of their parents,” said Firosekhan.

Usually, Residency Golden Visa holders in the UAE can now sponsor their parents if they earn a monthly salary of at least Dh20,000. This salary requirement, too, does not apply to Golden Visa holders, Firosekhan added.

Hundreds of thousands of Golden Visas have been issued to eligible residents since they were first rolled out. The 10-year visa costs between Dh2,800 and Dh3,800.

Six-month UAE Grace Period After Visa Cancellation, expiry applies to some categories

The UAE Grace Period After Visa Cancellation has been increased to between 60 and 180 days in most cases. The grace period, which was 30 days previously, depends on the category of the visa.

Expatriates need to either exit the country or get a new visa within the grace period after the visa is cancelled.

Typing centre agents and customer care agents at the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) have confirmed the increased period is now in effect. The flexible period was announced as the country adopted sweeping reforms to its entry and residency visa scheme last month.

A typing centre agent confirmed that a client of his had the longer grace period applied after visa cancellation.

“The new visa UAE Grace Period After Visa Cancellation was applied on a visa that we cancelled recently,” said Aliyyu Shahul Hameed from Pan Gulf document clearing services. “A skilled professional got a grace period of 180 days to exit the country.”

According to information shared by typing centre agents, the period varies according to the visa type. As per details they can access on the ICP system, here is the break-up:

You are reading : UAE Grace Period After Visa Cancellation

180 days

  • Golden Visa holders and their family members

  • Green Visa holders and their family members

  • Widows or divorcees

  • Students who have completed their studies

  • Skilled professionals (first and second level in the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation classification).

90 days

Skilled professionals (third level in the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation classification)
Property owners

60 days

Normal residencies

30 days

Other categories

Even though some skilled workers will get a UAE Grace Period After Visa Cancellation 180-day, their dependent have just 60, according to an ICP customer care agent.

Hameed said the flexible period that goes up to six months will be helpful to a lot of people. “Even if they lose a job, the grace period allows them enough time to get back on their feet and look for another", he noted.

However, it is not clear whether this will be applicable for people whose visas have already expired. “If someone has overstayed their visa, then it is unlikely that they will get the grace period when it is cancelled,” said Abdul Gafoor, general manager of Al Mas Businessmen Service. “We are still awaiting some clarification regarding this.”

The Advanced Visa System comprises many residency types, including the Green Visa – which allows an individual to sponsor their family for five years, as opposed to the existing system of two years. It is applicable to various individuals including skilled workers, self-employed people and freelancers.

There have also been a number of changes in visit visa permits. New visas will allow a stay of 60 days as opposed to 30 days earlier. Additionally, a five-year multi-entry tourist visa has been introduced, which does not require a sponsor.

Since the new reforms came into effect, it has also been revealed that the validity of freehold visas has been reduced to two years, as opposed to the earlier validity of three years. This is also applicable to people who apply for a visa as a partner of a mainland company and their dependants.

How to Apply for a Schengen Visa in UAE?

There are a few simple steps to follow when applying for a short-stay Schengen visa in the United Arab Emirates:

  • Check at which Embassy/Consulate you need to apply. In order to file your application at the right place, you will need to know which country should issue you a visa (if you are planning to visit more than one Schengen state). Then you need to check, what body of that particular country handles visa applications or whether it has outsourced visa submission to another party.
  • Schedule an appointment at the embassy/consulate/visa centre.
  • Attend the visa interview. Take all of the required documents with you, listed in the given order.
  • Wait for a response. In the meantime, the embassy will process your visa, which will go through EU security systems as Visa Information System and Schengen Information System.

The processing of your application may take up to 15 days. After that period, you will receive a response to your case. All applications are processed by the embassies only.

Where to Apply for a Schengen Visa in UAE

A Schengen visa allows its holder to visit 26 European countries. However, when it comes to where one should apply, the Schengen countries have very strict and clear rules. Many applicants fail to understand where they should apply, and, in the absence of information, they apply at the wrong embassy/consulate.

Before you decide at which EU embassy/consulate in Dubai or Abu Dhabi to submit your visa application for Europe, read the rules on “How to Choose the Right Embassy/Consulate/VAC to File a Schengen Visa Application“!

Please pay attention to these rules since it is very important to file your application at the right place. Lodging your application at the wrong authority, will result in the rejection of your Schengen Visa application.

In general, most of the Schengen states have their embassy located in Abu Dhabi and at least a consulate general in Dubai. In some cases, the embassy and the consulate(s) of the respective member state accept visa applications. In other cases, visa submission is outsourced to the embassy/consulate of another country or to companies that offer visa services.
