Apply for a Dubai Work Visa: Step-by-Step Guide

The expatriates who wish to work in Dubai need to apply for a Dubai work permit or a work visa to be legally employed in the emirate. A work permit (entry permit) is a document issued by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship that allows foreigners to enter and work in the UAE legally for a certain period of time.

The Dubai work visa (Residence visa) is issued to foreigners once they are already inside the country and have entered using the entry permit. When moving to the UAE, you will ultimately need to get a residence visa, on which your work permit will be listed.

Dubai work visa types

In Dubai, there is one type of work permit. This work permit is often referred to as a labour card. However, employees will need to obtain an entry visa, a residence visa, and an Emirate ID card before applying for a work permit.

However, under the new UAE visa rules, the UAE has recently introduced an entry permit for temporary work missions that allows visitors holding a temporary work assignment (such as probation testing or project-based mission sponsored by the employer) can apply for the entry permit for a temporary work mission. A visitor can apply for this entry permit if they are a relative or friend of a UAE citizen or resident.

Furthermore, the validity of all entry visas will now be available for single or multiple entries and will be valid for 60 days from their date of issuance. They can also be renewed for similar periods. Some of the requirements include:

a temporary work contract, or

a letter from the employer clarifying the visit purpose

proof of health and fitness to work.

Dubai work visa age limit & categories

Any foreigner over the age of 18 can choose to work in Dubai, provided they meet the following standards as set up by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE).

Based on their academic qualifications/skill sets, foreign workers are divided into three categories:

Category 1: Holding at least a bachelor’s degree

Category 2: Holding a post-secondary diploma in any field

Category 3: Holding a high school diploma.

Dubai work visa requirements

To obtain a work permit and Residence visa in Dubai, employees will need the following documents:

A valid passport and a photocopy

Passport photos

Copies of academic qualifications. (Your qualifications have to be authorized by the UAE Embassy or consulate in your country as well as from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of your country)

Copies of the applicant’s birth certificate (and marriage certificate if applicable).

An Emirates ID card

An entry permit from the Ministry of Labor

A medical certificate, issued by a government-approved health centre in the UAE.

Proof of accommodations in the UAE, such as a copy of a lease agreement

A copy of a company card from the employer

A copy of the company’s commercial license

Evidence that the applicant has sufficient financial means to support themselves in the UAE

Proof of payment of the application fee.

Dubai work visa validity

When the applicants first receive a work permit, it is valid for 30 days and can further be extended for 30 days. Thus, applicants can stay in Dubai for 60 days, during which their employer must arrange to get a Residence Visa, an Emirates ID, and their Labour Card.

It is the Residence Visa in addition to the Labour Card which allows travellers to live and work in the UAE legally. The Residence visa and the associated work permit usually last for one or two years, depending on your employment contract.

How to apply online for a Dubai work visa?

To start the necessary procedure to obtain your employment visa and work permit for Dubai, you need an employer willing to hire you. There are three stages in the process of obtaining a Dubai work visa:

Obtaining an entry visa for the UAE

To begin the process of obtaining an Employment Entry Visa (Pink visa/Residence visa), the employer will need to follow the procedure as follows:

Apply for visa quota approval on your behalf. The Ministry of Labour (MOL) will approve this.

Submit an employment contract to the MOL. You will be required to sign this contract.

The Ministry must approve the work permit application before issuing an employment entry visa. With the approval and visa secured, you will need to enter the UAE within two months.

Upon entering the UAE with a Pink visa, you will have a period of 60 days to obtain a residence visa and formal work permit.

Obtaining an Emirates ID

An Emirates ID is required for the medical screening. To apply for an ID, you need to provide your entry visa along with an original passport and a copy. Employees need to apply in person at the Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) centre.

Obtaining a residence visa and work permit

To apply for a Residence visa, you will need all of the required documents, as mentioned above.

Once your company secures visa quota approval from the Ministry of Labour, you can sign your contract and return it to the employer. At this point, the employer can apply for a work permit on your behalf. The work permit will be listed as part of the Residency visa. On approval of the work permit, the employee is then allowed to begin working officially.

Receive the employment entry visa

The applicants will now receive an Employment Entry Visa (Pink visa) at the airport. It allows applicants to live in the UAE for two months while they finish their residency visa application.

Once you are in the UAE, you will need to undergo a medical screening and attend the Emirates ID service centre (sometimes known as a Customer Happiness Center) to show your passport and entry permit and undergo biometric tests. The Ministry of Labor will further receive your medical results and employment contract, which is used to process you onto the payroll system.

Collect your Emirates ID

The applicants will now have their Residence visa stamped into their passports. Once applicants have this, they may open a bank account and access government services. After ten days, applicants can collect their Emirates ID card.

There's more to the UAE than the contemporary glitz of its two major cities, though. The country's interior of desert and Hajar Mountains are all about big-sky scenery and adventure activities, from 4WD trips across a landscape of rippling dunes to taking on the world's longest zipline over the jagged contours of Jebel Jais.

There's also much more history here than those modern skyscrapers would have you believe. Sharjah and Al Ain are two cities dedicated to promoting Emirati heritage.

1. Burj Khalifa, Dubai

2. Sheikh Zayed Mosque, Abu Dhabi

Under places to visit in Abu Dhabi, this mosque is must visit. Sheikh Zayed Mosque is the largest place of worship in the UAE covering over 30 acres. It took over a decade to build. It is a key place of worship where traditional architecture meets the exquisite interiors of mosaic, gold, glass, and marble. A visit here is a must on any Abu Dhabi itinerary. With its interiors using lavish amounts of gold, mosaic tiles, and glass work and immense amounts of marble, and its exterior of blindingly white stone contrasting dramatically under the Emirati blue sky, it never fails to dazzle.

3. Palm Jumeirah, Dubai

Palm Jumeirah is an artificial archipelago – a microcosm in itself. It was created by land reclamation, and has a plethora of resorts, like Atlantis and Fairmont Palm, to visit. There is a special monorail connecting the mainland to Palm Jumeirah.

4. Sharjah Art Museum, Sharjah

Museum is the must place to visit in Sharjah. Sharjah Art Museum contains works of art by contemporary artists from the Middle East. It has the most diverse art collection in the UAE. It hosts temporary exhibitions the year round. The museum is recognized for its collection of works by Arabic artists and also for its important pieces by European artists who specialized in painting the Arab world.

5. Al Ain Zoo, Al Ain

Al Ain Zoo is a fantastic place and one of the best places to visit in Al Ain for kids to observe fauna. It was opened in 1969 and features over 4,000 wild animals and birds. The zoo is known for its safari, bird show, and dinosaur trail.

6. Khalifa Park, Abu Dhabi

Khalifa Park is the most popular park in the Emirates. It is a marvel to visit, with a museum, an aquarium, waterfalls, a children’s amusement park, and a train around it.

7. Family Fun at the Theme Parks

In Dubai, Dubai Parks & Resorts offers four major theme parks rolled into one: Motion gate, dedicated to rides themed around Hollywood films; Bollywood Parks; Legoland Dubai; and Legoland Water Park. The city is also home to MG Worlds of Adventure with rides, roller coasters, and experiences themed around both Marvel storylines and characters for older kids, and the Cartoon Network for little ones. If you just want to splash about for the day, though, Dubai's Wild Wadi Water Park is your best bet in town. The best water park for older kids and teenagers wanting something more than simply slides is Wadi Adventure in Al Ain.

8. The Dubai's Al Fahidi Quarter

The Al Fahidi quater of Dubai (also known as Bastakia) is the last remaining fragment of Old Dubai and shouldn't be missed. This small heritage area really evokes the simpler, gentler past of the city before skyscrapers took over the skyline. The narrow lanes within the neighborhood are lined with carefully restored traditional buildings in typical Arabian architectural styles, many with the wind tower features, which kept houses cool before air-conditioning became common.

9. Dhow Rides on Dubai Creek

The Burj Khalifa may give you that famous skyline view from up high, but the most iconic Dubai views are still taken from the water. Dubai Creek slices through the city, and the best way to experience Dubai is from one of the beautiful dhows (traditional Arabic boats) that ply the creek. Sunset cruises (which often come with entertainment and dinner) are particularly popular among visitors, as you get to watch the lights of the high-rises begin to twinkle in the dusk.

10. The Khorfakkan Waterfall

The Waterfall is located at a height of 43 meters above sea level and is 45 meters long and 11 meters wide. It consists of a number of windows through which one can see the waters of the waterfall sloping from the top of the cave above to the bottom of the mountain. Additionally, it gives visitors a panoramic view of the Khorfakkan beach. There’s even a restaurant and café that can accommodate more than 80 guests. You can even choose to dine outdoors and enjoy the beautiful views. And the new attraction isn’t just for leisure activities. The Waterfall is also equipped with the latest technologies and has spaces to hold meetings.

Burj Khalifa: Most Desirable Landmark for Tourists

Study reveals foreign landmarks around the world people were Googling the most is BURJ KHALIFA

A study by luxury travel company Kuoni analyzed that the famed skyscraper was the most searched landmark in 66 (37.5%) countries analyzed, including India, Switzerland and most of Africa.

Curious to discover which landmark each country wants to visit most, Kuoni analyzed global search data to find out the most Googled foreign landmarks in (nearly) every country in the world. Google search data was used to establish the average monthly search volume in 176 countries for 233 different landmarks.

The Eiffel Tower was the second most popular landmark to travel and Peruvian architectural feat Machu Picchu ranked third most searched for.

London’s famous clock tower Big Ben is the joint fourth-most searched landmark globally, alongside the Taj Mahal (India).

EXPO2020 Dubai: Meet the Gate’s Creator

The brain behind the enormous EXPO2020 Dubai gates is a British-Pakistani architect named Asif Khan

Asif Khan - Brilliantly merged the ancient Mashrabiya design with an ultra-futuristic concept for Expo2020 dubai.

He has designed the award-winning UK pavilion at Astana Expo 2017 and the Hyundai pavilion at the Pyeong Chang 2018 Winter Olympics.

His notable projects include the ‘Mega Faces’ pavilion at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, which won the Cannes Lion Grand Prix for Innovation; the Coca-Cola Beatbox at London 2012 Olympics, a finalist entry in the international competition for the new Guggenheim Museum Helsinki from 1700 anonymous designs; and a Summer pavilion for the Serpentine Gallery in summer 2016.

Khan is basking in the glory of a mission accomplished, which has become a talking point of the 182-day event, whose theme, 'Connecting Minds, Creating the Future', is inextricably linked to his creation.

“It was a challenging task to bring this extraordinary spectacle to life,” he said.

Khan’s team worked with several experts for the Expo2020 dubai gate project.

“We pushed to the absolute limit of structural engineering and science. We approached F1 car engineers, as they deal with carbon fibre, to make it happen. But that did not suffice.

“We then had to work with engineers from the aeronautical industry that deals with carbon fiber components and work with light-weight solar power planes,” he said.

They went the extra mile to ensure that the entry portals would convey the Expo’s vision of history meeting the future.

Besides the Expo2020 dubai gates, other major installations at the venue came from Asif Khan Studios in London.

Khan had been tasked with designing the entire 6km of the Expo’s public realm.

UK Welcomes UAE Vaccination Certificates for Travel

Travellers who have taken a United Kingdom (UK)-Approved vaccine from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) can visit without mandatory quarantine, According to the secretary of State for Transport Grants shapps.

From 4 October, travellers who’ve been vaccinated in Dubai and the other Emirates can enter the United Kingdom without having to quarantine or test before departure.

They will be subject to the same rules as those vaccinated in the UK, US and EU, and must simply take one PCR test within two days of arrival.

EXPO 2020: 9 Locations, Free Event Shuttles

HE Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer confirmed RTA’s readiness to provide a unique, smooth and express transit service for Expo2020 visitors from various locations in Dubai and across the UAE through the deployment of 203 buses.

Additionally, two routes will be launched to transport Expo visitors from hotels directly to the site of Expo. The RTA will also deploy buses to drop visitors from the parking area to the gates in addition to another bus service to ferry riders between Expo gates.

Buses will run 1,956 direct daily trips from Saturday to Wednesday andthe number of trips will rise to 2,203 direct trips on Thursday and Friday. The service frequency will vary from three to 60 minutes.

A total of 77 buses are allocated for this service to run 193 trips per day on all days of the week, and the number of trips will rise to 213 trips per day on Thursday and Friday.

The nine bus stations for visitors are:

The first station is Palm Jumeirah, where six buses are allocated to run 54 trips per day in both directions from Saturday to Wednesday, and 57 trips per day in both directions on Thursday and Friday. The service frequency will be 15 minutes.

The second station is Al Baraha, where seven buses are allocated to run 62 trips per day in both directions from Saturday to Wednesday, and 68 trips per day in both directions on Thursday and Friday. The service frequency will be 30 minutes.

The third station is Al Ghubaiba, a station characterised by integrated various mass transit modes spanning the metro, public buses, marine transport, and taxis. A total of 12 buses are allocated to run 74 trips per day in both directions from Saturday to Wednesday, and 76 daily trips in both directions on Thursday and Friday. The service frequency will be 15 minutes.

The fourth station is Etisalat, adjacent to Etisalat Metro Station on the Green Line. As many as eight buses are allocated to run 70 trips per day in both directions from Saturday to Wednesday, and 72 trips per day in both directions on Thursday and Friday.

The fifth station is the Global Village where three buses are allocated to run 10 trips daily on all weekdays. The service frequency will be 60 minutes.

The sixth and seventh stations are the International City and the Dubai Silicon Oasis Station. Eight buses are allocated to both stations to run 78 trips per day in both directions from Saturday to Wednesday, and 82 trips per day in both directions on Thursday and Friday. The service frequency will be 15 minutes.

The eighth station is the Dubai Mall where five buses are allocated to run 55 trips per day in both directions from Saturday to Wednesday, and 59 trips per day in both directions on Thursday and Friday. The service frequency will be 30 minutes.

The ninth station is the Dubai International Airport, where eight buses are allocated to run 52 trips per day in both directions, seven days a week. The service frequency will be 20 minutes.

These buses feature high safety and luxury standards, and comfortable seats.
